This article covers troubleshooting techniques for known problems and
solutions with Windows Mobile Device Center.
Troubleshooting:
- If you are having a problem with installing WMDC you can find the
device driver log in \Windows\INF\setupapi.dev.log. You can look
in the log to see if there was a problem installing the device drivers
required to connect your Windows Mobile device to WMDC.
- If you are having problems connecting check to make sure your
firewall is configured to allow WMDC to connect. See
Windows Mobile Device Center - Firewall
Requirements If you are using OneCare see Windows Mobile
Device Center - OneCare Firewall Configuration
- If you have problems connecting and you have checked the firewall
and you have a Windows Mobile 5.0 device then try reverting back to
PPP to connect. See
USB Advanced Network Functionality
- If you are unable to sync media content using Windows Media Player
11 to the storage card, this is a known issue.
- If you are having a problem with WMDC that has not been resolved,
try the WMDC How to Create Debugging Logs.
- As of 2/12/07, the rom upgrades provided by OEMs are NOT
compatible with WMDC. Do not attempt rom upgrades using WMDC
with Vista to avoid damaging your device.
- Try plugging in your Windows Mobile device, and then in the
Hardware Device Manager, delete the device. Then unplug your
Windows Mobile Device, wait 15 seconds and then re-plug it in.
- If you install Access 2000 you will not be able to sync with
Windows Mobile Device Center.
- Windows Mobile Device Center does not offer the ability to
uninstall or reinstall applications from the desktop like ActiveSync
does. This means that you may need to uninstall or reinstall
applications on your PC in order to reinstall them on your Windows
Mobile device. Also, you may have to uninstall the application
on your Windows Mobile device - Start - Settings - System - Remove
Programs.
- If you have problems with WMDC you may want to try uninstalling
WMDC and reinstalling it. If you have problems after
reinstalling, try using
http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/ to unlock the files in
C:\Windows\WindowsMobile so you can delete them. This is
required because the files were owned by the Windows Trusted
Installer. Please note that this is not supported by
Microsoft.
- If you are trying to install WMDC on Windows Server 2008, you
must install the
Desktop Experience Feature first. If you do not, you will
see an error "The update could not be installed because at least one
Windows component required by Windows Mobile Device Center is
missing "
- If you are running Windows Vista x64 or Windows Server 2008 x64,
you must install WMDC x86 (32 bit) and the
Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 x64 driver.
