Johan Sanneblad contacted me to announce the release of OpenTrek, an "ad hoc game network SDK". Johan notes that "due to copyright issues I was not allowed to ship any real games with the platform, but I did manage to put together a small whiteboard-application that demonstrates the ease of use of the platform. I will most probably be able to release non-commercial games based on the platform in a very short time. Right now I felt that the need to release the platform was greater than the need to release free multiplayer games.
"It is very difficult to describe OpenTrek in few words since it is such a large platform, but basically it allows one to create advanced networked games for Pocket PCs in record time! It ships with several examples, and creating simple games such as multiplayer worms takes just a matter of hours! Please checkout the web site for a complete description of OpenTrek, and even a direct comparison between OpenTrek and DirectPlay.
"OpenTrek is available for both Pocket PCs and Windows 2000/XP."
