Hey, I am new to dos and I need help using pocket dos, I have installed pocket dos sucessfully. I installed the program I want to use to my pda, the program is called pacterm.com
I then did a directory search including subdirectories to locate the file with the idea that I could then load the file by entering the file name, however when I did the directory search all of the files came up as numbers rather than names? Actually the names flashed up for a split second then turned into numbers?
I figure that I probably need to perform a setdrive command and install the program to that folder - "put them into a folder which is "visible" from PocketDOS. You can set up a DOS drive letter to point to this folder with the SETDRIVE command eg. SETDRIVE C: "\Program Files\Example" You should also be able to use them on a PC without needing to run any sort of conversion."
As a beginner I am not sure how to interpret this statement do I type this -
C:\>SETDRIVE C:\Program Files\Pacterm
or do I actually need to use "" and spaces in the address? and should I made my setdrive to C? I read another post where someone had to use third party software as well to mount the drive?
I would appreciate any help as you can see I am totally lost
You need to enclose the full path in quotes if it contains any spaces. You also need to separate the DOS drive letter you are trying to map from the path you are trying to map it to. The command-line for your scenario would be:
SETDRIVE C: "\Program Files\Pacterm"
Thank you for your interest. _________________ PocketDOS - Adds DOS compatibility to your Pocket Computer.
