Update: Exchange ActiveSync Error Codes and Solutions

Added the error "86000108 - ActiveSync encountered a problem on the server". This is caused by a digital certificate that needs to be installed on the device.

My server has never used certificates. My device never downloaded one. This cannot be the solution.

Hi,
By default Exchange SP2 ActiveSync with Windows Mobile 5.0 requires a digital certificate to be installed on the server and the Windows Mobile 5.0 device.

Prior devices did not require a digital certificate.

I think I will call B.S. on that.

I installed SP2 on my Exchange box when it first was released. I have no Certificate Servers in my infrastructure. Everything was running fine until maybe a week ago.

Today, for some still unknown reason--Sync works again and I still have no Certificte Servers in my infrastructure. There was something else going on--don't know what it was...but digital certs was not the answer.

A review of my device reveals that there are no digital certs on it besides the default certs that came with the device.

Hi,
Certificate Servers are not the same as having a digital certificate installed on the OWA server so that port 443 requests are encrypted. You do not have to have a certificate server to use encryption.

I can't sync. I have a personal computer not attached to any network or server. I'm running Windows XP Pro, Outlook 2002 (XP), & ActiveSync 4.5. I can't get my Contacts, Calendar, or Tasks from Outlook to my Motorola Q. When I try, I get "ActiveSync has encountered a problem on the desktop, Support Code 86000108." I am able to use ActiveSync to view files on my Q & transfer files back & forth from my desktop & my Q, but it won't sync when it comes to the Outlook stuff. I need help in layman's terms as I don't understand a lot of the tech talk. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
Take a look at http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/faqs/activesync/tshoot-as4x.htm

Also, take a look at http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/faqs/activesync/tshoot-as4x-connection.htm to understand the connection process and check each step.
