I've been trying to use a 4GB Hitachi Microdrive in my new HP iPAQ hx4700 and it canít see it or wont recognise it at all, using Pocket PC 2003 Second Edition.

However with the Hitachi 4GB Microdrive I do get an error message asking me to enter the path to the driver. I contacted HP Support and they suggested I try another drive, so I purchased a Seagate 5GB and the PDA doesnít see it at all. With the Seagate I dont even get the error message. It is just dead. Is there a solution to this?

So not surprisingly I gave up on the microdrives all together.

I am now using a 2GB compact Flash solid state card which although it works Iím finding is not big enough to get all I need on it.

So I am contemplating purchasing a 4GB Compact Flash (solid state) card.

My question is: do 4GB CF cards work in the HP iPAQ????

Many thanks.............

Hi,
I don't have a 4GB CF card to test with. However they should work fine if they are recognized by the 4700. I have used my 2GB cf card from Kingston without a problem with my 4700.

Thanks Chris.......

I would imagine that if the 2GB CF cards works OK, then a 4GB should be OK too? I've ordered a Scandisk 4GB so I'll let you know on that.......

What I'm really amazed about is why Both the Hitachi 4GB Microdrive and Seagate ST1 5GB wouldn't work. Both are dead on arrival as soon as I put them in the slot. Searching through the forums I've discovered that they can prove to be troublesome. But Why? If they're the CF format and they support Fat 32 then they should work. Even HP Support was very non committal.

Although searching further the hx4700 isn't listed on the Hitachi site as being compatible........and the Seagate site is next to useless with very little useful information.
