I'm one of those people having the problem with installation ActiveSync 3.7.1 discussed in the ActiveSync Troubleshooting Guide, Installation section, point 6 (the following error message during setup: "Setup Missing Required File. Setup requires the file 'C:\Documents_and_Settings\[myusername]\Local_Settings\Temp\IXP000.TMP\support\nt5_supp.dll' which does not exist. Please run Setup again." ) As people who've been having this problem know, the irony is that the file nt5_supp.dll does indeed exist in that temporary directory, at least temporarily, during setup.

The fix described in the link in point 6, which one person obtained by paying Microsoft, did not work for me. On those occasions when the IXP000.TMP\support subdirectory does remain after setup hangs, finding and running is_setup.exe within that subdirectory just results in the same error message.

I've tried every variation on it I can think of, including but not limited to uninstalling XP SP2, reinstalling XP SP1, logging on as Administrator, cleaning out all Temp directories and files (yes, many times, yes, repeatedly), rebooting over and over again, booting in Safe Mode with Networking, ... I've probably tried this fix, every way I can think of, and others I've seen suggested on the internet, about thirty times so far. I emailed Microsoft about it but got an email back saying only that my cell phone provider has the expertise to help me with this (funny, ActiveSync is a Microsoft program ...) Alas, my cell phone provider does not have that expertise; yesterday I was on the phone with T-Mobile tech support for about four hours and they couldn't figure it out either.

Does anybody know how to get past this ActiveSync 3.7.1 setup problem yet?

Hi,
Have you closed all your apps and then deleted all the temporary files?

Hi,
Here's a list of things to check out:

1. Are you logged in as the local administrator before trying to install ActiveSync?
2. Have you tried disabling any firewalls or antivirus software (or apps like Cleansweep that track all the installations on your PC) to see if it is preventing the installation from completing?

As a final thought, you can always call Microsoft and pay for support. If you do this I believe you are not charged unless they can resolve the problem.

HI
At the end of the installation ActiveSync the next message appear:

Setup failed to create one or more system registry settings. Microsoft may not funtion properly until these setting are created. You may need to run Setup again for ActiveSync to funtion properly. Setup Will no continue.

I did it over and I get the same result.

What can I do?

Thx.

I've got the same problem described:
Impossible to install again Activesync on my notebook (XP SP2).

Can we have any tech info about the reason for this error message that says install program cannot find NT5_supp.dll, even if it's there ?

I imagine the real reason is not that it cannot find it.

Hint for diagnosis: for me, Activesync was already installed before (original ASYNC3.7 delivered with my brand new iPaq2210, and I tried to upgrade it after uninstalling the old one).

From there, black-out between iPaq & XP.

As a matter of luck, the iPaq lost all it's content yesterday night, and since I cannot sync for 15 days, I'm really happy about those two products...

Searching NT5_SUPP.DLL on google, it seems that we're the only ones to have this problem. I can't believe it, it looks like a nasty bug, just plugged onto the installer...

Microsoft Mobile Experts... any idea ?

Thanx...

Hi,
If this PC is a member of a domain, and the administrator does not allow you to install applications, you may see an error like this.

Beyond that all I can suggest is to call the OEM of your Pocket PC for assistance.

Hi,

I already had uninstalled on the "normal" way 2 weeks back. I saw now just one key, the first one was still present so I removed it. I restarted my PC and try to install again. Without any luck Shocked

Hi,
I don't know why it won't install. I suggest that you contact your Pocket PC's OEM for assistance.
