This is a problem I've been struggling with for many months, and nobody seems to have a clear answer, only guesses.

I have code that uses the raw ir port on iPaq PPC ("COM2:"). A special thread for reading incoming data.
Everything works fine, until I power off my handheld or it auto-suspends. When I power it back on, my connection seems "dead". I can close and open my port, and that will seem fine, and all writing and reading functions do not return errors, yet no data is sent or received, or is garbled.

I've tried several different platforms, and they all seem to have the same problem. Someone at Microsoft told me if he remembered right, it was due to a bug in the CPU that can be worked around only in the serial driver itself, but that most OEMs have not implemented that.

Is anyone else familiar with this problem and perhaps has a solution? Maybe there are libraries that use assembler to access the raw IR port directely without using the serial port drivers, or perhaps there's just a bug in my serial port code.
