I'm having trouble with Visual Basic applications on my 2180 - I get error messages when I try to open them. I tried reinstalling one (Softhat's ChessClockCE) and the install dialog box got stuck on "Setting registry entries . . ." So I exported three keys from my Casio E-105 (which is having no problem with VB apps) in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT: .vb, VBCE.ProjectRun, and vbfile. But I got an error message for .vb and vbfile after deleting the existing keys and trying to import the corresponding keys from the E-105: the error dialog box title bar says "Fatal" and the dialog text is "WndProc." (I didn't try replacing VBCE.ProjectRun because I was afraid I wouldn't be able to rewrite the key correctly in case the import failed.) Anyone have a clue what's going on?

I ended up creating all the registry keys/subkeys and values manually, and that solved the problem. Both Tascal Registry Editor (which I used in the above attempts) and PHM Registry Editor (Windows CE 2.11 and/or Palm-size PC versions in both cases), while being otherwise very good registry editors for older Windows CE devices, seem to have severe limitations when it comes to exporting/importing registry files.

As I later learned, I could have used Christian Ghisler's Total Commander ( http://www.ghisler.com ) to import the registry file(s) simply by copying it/them from a Compact Flash card into HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT in the registry, followed by soft resetting the device. This experience showed me how great a program Total Commander is (particularly given that it's freeware). It actually explores the registry in the same fashion that it explores the file hierarchy itself.
