Hi,

I have the following problem regarding communication using IrDA RAW: in my
application is there a reader thread which waits for any bytes on IrDA and
another thread which is the writer thread. After wake-up from stand-by mode
the communication does'nt working, I need to close and reopen my
application.

I searched over the internet and I found the EV_POWER event and maked those
changes too in my application. Till now I had no problem, but testing on
various devices with variuos version of MS PocketPC I found that on devices
running Microsoft PocketPC Version 4.20.1081 (Build 13100) is working
perfectly, but on devices running Microsoft PocketPC Version 4.20.0 (Build
14053) it does'nt working.

On the other hand how can I know which is the newer OS version 4.20.1081
(Build 13100) or 4.20.0 (Build 140533). My opinion is that the first one is
the newer but I need another opinion two.

Best regards,
Boby

Hi,
I suggest that you contact Microsoft or the hardware OEM you are using to understand what is different between the releases. Generally the build numbers get larger with newer releases.

Most of what you are talking about is far over my head. However, there is something common about Pocket PC behavior which may be relevant. I find that if, for instance, I am using Wi-Fi, and if I suspend the device for any time and then power it on again, whatever application was in focus (be it a text editor, browser window, email app, whatever) focus is lost within a second of wakeup. Scrolling by button or external keyboard will not work in what appears to be the top window. Text input fails; no cursor. Highlighted elements grey-out.

What seems to be happening is that if there is some background communication process, or anything which is attempting to grab top-level focus, the application last left on top is dumped to #2 position and needs a screen tap to bring it back to #1.

Perhaps this is the same with your infrared application. There may be some way to block this, but I don't know it. And of course, I have no idea why this should have changed between two such close builds of the PPC OS. I do not have a WM2003SE device, which I presume one of yours is. Perhaps they've changed this behavior recently...

Anyway, sorry if this is a distracting irrelevancy. Just a shot in the dark really, though it is a behavior of ongoing annoyance to me. When I suspend my PPC and then awaken it, I kind of expect things to be where I left them, not have the priority tossed out the window according to some other application's little whim. Then again maybe this is the only way it could be worked.
