A representative from ElGraph Co., the Russian team that is, according to an email I recently received from them, working on a game by the codename of ThunderGame, "based on the WarCraft 2000 source code."

According to the representative, the game's features are as follows:
Advanced 2D engine, adapted for the Pocket PC
256 colour palette, animation for game process
Music and sound effects
Advanced AI (3 levels of complexity)
2 companies, 15 missions each for humans and orcs
2D map editor

On the hardware requirements front, you'll need an ARM device with 4 MB free program memory and 12 MB storage memory. Officially supported devices include the Compaq iPAQ 31xx, 36xx, 37xx, 38xx and Casio E-200. An official Warcraft PPC website will apparently be opened at some point this week.

No MIPS, no dice.

I certainly hope Argentum isn't a pipe dream. It would be really nice to have a real RTS game on the Pocket PC. Current offerings are a step in the right direction, but still limited.

i'm glad i'm buying an ipaq. its nice to have a decent rts on the way. I just hope it doesn't take forever to make. If that is a screenshot off a ppc running it, we shouldn't have that long to wait.

Awesome, I love warcraft

2 Things, hopefully they will have english support (map is currently russian).

I realise they are using the original sized sprites, but they are quite big on the ppc screen. And with screen real-estate being such a problem, maybe they should consider resizing them. Just a thought.

I really hope they make it Multiplayer. Playing over a Lan, or better yet, IR would be wicked cool.

Wow, the game looks awesome. The units and buildings look crisper than the original. It says in the post that the game is running on a 256 color palette. Are SH3 devices being supported? Im sure it would run and wouldnt take much time to convert to SH3. I have all of the Blizzard games and I loved playing them and would surely buy a chance to play a similar clone on the PPC

I wonder about the legality of this.

In case you don't know, Warcraft 2000 was a proof-of-concept demo that was to be a sequel to Warcraft II that was designed by a Ukrainian company named GSC. GSC presented a beta version of Warcraft 2000 to Blizzard but they turned it down.

Some early Warcraft 2000 source code can be found here:
http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Bridge/3557/english/download.htm

I believe GSC has gone on to design the RTS games Cossacks and European Wars for the European market.

Well, unfortunately, the first requirement is to wait for the game to be released...

Hehe. No worries! I only hope that the game is actually released after all this - the company seems confident enough, but when legal/copyright issues are involved, you can never take anything for granted.

It's been over a year now. Sadly, I don't think we'll ever see this game...
