Pocket PC 2002 Service Pack 2 (EUU2) FAQ [an error occurred while processing this directive] Introduction So you've been having some problems with your Pocket PC 2002? Well Microsoft released Service Pack 2 to all the the hardware manufacturers. It fixes multiple problems that have been reported, including some networking issues. I have some information in the Pocket PC 2002 Software Bugs List. The Service Pack 2 actually replaces some of the flash rom programs with updated versions of program so no additional ram is required after installation. You will need 16 MB of free ram before loading the Service Pack 2. If you do not have this free ram, you will not be able to install it. Service Pack 2 includes all the updates from Service Pack 1 so you can install Service Pack 2 instead of Service Pack 1 and get all the updates. Also there is no option to uninstall this service pack once you install it! What's Included? At this time, Microsoft does not provide a comprehensive list of all the files that are being updated via XIP on the Pocket PC. By opening the .CAB file and viewing the file list, we can see that the following regions and applications are installed:
For 24 MB roms:
Windows Media Player 8.0 is installed. I do not know which XIP it is contained in. See Microsoft's Pocket PC 2002 Service Pack 2 (EUU2) README for details. Preparing to Install I recommend uninstalling Windows Media Player 8.0 if you have installed it and you have a 32 MB rom. Also, you need to disable your password protection and don't display the owner information on power on. If you have an iPAQ 3600 or 3100 you will receive this message "24mconsumer.xip is invalid ... update will proceed..." during the install. This message is to indicate that the applications for 32 MB roms cannot be updated on 16 MB rom systems. Also make sure you install the Service Pack for your language. You cannot install the English Service Pack on foreign language devices. Identifying if the Service Pack 2 has been Installed Microsoft did not create a standard way to identify when Service Packs are installed on the Pocket PC 2002. Check and see if Windows Media Player 8.0 is installed (launch Windows Media Player and click on Tools - About). If it is installed, you need to check and see if it is listed under Remove Programs (Start - Settings - System -Remove Programs). If it is not listed then the Service Pack 2 is installed. If it is listed then Windows Media Player has been installed to ram. If the rom has already been installed, you will be asked if you want to install it again. OEMs that offer the Service Pack 2 for the Pocket PC 2002: The following OEMs offer Service Pack 2 for the Pocket PC 2002. Some users have installed the Microsoft Service Pack 2 from other OEMS onto their Pocket PC. Currently no OEM has included their own patch along with Microsoft's SP2.
