Missing  or Duplicate Calendar, Contacts, Tasks or Notes:

  1. If you see the Resolve Items listed on the ActiveSync program's display, then close all applications and click on the link.  If this does not work, then try soft resetting your Pocket PC and re-synchronize.  See ActiveSync - Identifying Unresolved Items to assist you with fixing this issue.

  2. If you are having problems with missing appointments, make sure that you have set ActiveSync to send all appointments.  The default is 2 weeks.  This is done while the Pocket PC, Handheld PC or Palm-size PC is connected from the menu item Tools -> ActiveSync Options -> Appointments -> Options.

  3. If you are having problems with missing tasks make sure that you have set ActiveSync to send all tasks.  The default is incomplete tasks.  This is done while the Pocket PC, Handheld PC or Palm-size PC is connected from the menu item Tools -> ActiveSync Options -> Tasks -> Options.

  4. If you are missing Notes then you may have a corrupted PST file.  See Microsoft's KB article Q30554 which explains how to create a new one.

  5. You can choose specific categories of Contacts or Appointments to synchronize.  This is done one the Pocket PC, Handheld PC or Palm-size PC is connected from the menu item Tools -> ActiveSync Options -> Tasks or Appointments -> Options.

  6. If you have duplicate contacts, you can use the Outlook Duplicate Remover (free) or LBE Toolbox for Outlook.  Usually duplicate contacts occur if you are asked to synchronize and you select the option to merge data.  This approach is best since you will not lose any data you entered on your Pocket PC, you may end up with duplicate items in Outlook.

  7. In ActiveSync 3.1, if you enter the notes on the Pocket PC, Handheld PC or Palm-size PC and then sync, the notes can be modified on the desktop and they will stay synchronized. If you enter the notes on the desktop first, then they will not.

  8. If you are upgrading from Schedule + or  Outlook 97/98/2000/XP you need to reinstall ActiveSync.  Also, you may need to delete your old partnership with your Pocket PC, Handheld PC or Palm-size PC.  This is done from Mobile Services, click on the device name and then select File, Delete.  When the new partnership is created, don't forget to select Outlook for all synchronization.

  9. If you are having problems synchronizing with Outlook you may want to run Scanpst.exe from the \Program Files\Windows Messaging  or in XP the C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Mapi\1033 folder.  This will fix a corrupt Outlook personal folder (.PST file).

  10. For some problems, deleting the partnership in ActiveSync on your desktop and creating a new partnership resolves some problems.  This includes AvantGo channel synchronization as well.

  11. If you see that your appointments on your Pocket PC are 1 hour off from your PC, you need to make sure that the time zone and daylight savings time settings are the same.  This occurs because all appointments on the Pocket PC and PC are stored based on the offset from GMT.

  12. If you notice that some calendar, contacts, tasks or inbox items have been accidentally deleted in Outlook 2000 or 2002 you may be able to recover them.  Microsoft KB article 246153 covers how to recover items that have been hard deleted in PST files.

If your problem is not resolved here, try the Microsoft's Knowledge Base search on ActiveSync or Microsoft's Knowledge Base search on Mobile Information Server.
