Introduction

Here is a list of bugs that people have reported with their Windows Mobile 2003 Pocket PC software.  Whenever possible, I will list how the problem has been resolved.   This page does not address hardware issues where components fail due to mishandling.  Submit your bugs to Chris@Pocket PC FAQ and I will add them here.

This bug list does not represent the views of Microsoft or the hardware manufacturers to identify or resolve issues with their products. The issues listed here may or may not be addressed by Microsoft and/or the hardware manufacturers as they see fit. All items listed are based on reports from users which may or may not be accurate.

Date Added Device Problem Description Resolution

8/23/04 All If you save a spreadsheet in Microsoft Works and specify the .XLS format, Pocket Excel cannot open it. Open issue.  The workaround is to open the .XLS file created in Works with Excel and save it again.
8/23/04 All Unable To Reconnect To Terminal Server In Application Mode See Microsoft Community Article #555061 or perform a hard reset.
6/5/04 All Locally stored XML files are not parsed when you click on them from File Explorer or from a locally coded HTML file.  Pocket IE displays a blank screen. Open issue.  You can get a small sample file here.  Don't forget that you must save the file to the Pocket PC to experience this problem.
5/2/04 T-Mobile Pocket PC Phone Edition 2003 If you have Microsoft Voice Command and Movian VPN installed, you cannot use Movian VPN without disabling Voice Command. You must disable Microsoft Voice Command prior to launching Movian VPN.
4/21/04 Dell Axim, possibly others SD cards are randomly corrupted. Known issue. Visit http://sdprob.aximsite.com/ for details
4/11/04 XDA2 When you attempt to connect via a SDIO Wi-Fi card you must enable the GSM connection to sync via a VPN. Open Issue.  Please contact your OEM for assistance.  This issue has to do with how Connection Manager expects the user to connect even though a faster connection is available.
11/23/03 All Developers that used the Windows Media Player OCX for Pocket PC 2002 in their websites are unable to play their videos in Windows Mobile 2003. This is a known issue with Windows Mobile 2003, Pocket IE, and the Windows Media Player OCX. Microsoft hopes to have a fix available soon.
11/20/03 All You are unable to login to MSN Messenger Microsoft has released a new version of MSN Messenger for the Pocket PC 2003 and you need to upgrade.
8/1/03 All Calendar appointment alarms may not go off at the correct time.  This issue is intermittent. Open Issue.  Please contact your OEM for assistance.  Users have reported that the iPAQ 2215 with rom v1.10 no longer exhibits this issue.
7/28/03 All If a developer creates a contact, and you do not set the File As field explicitly, you will get first name, last name instead of last name, first name which is the default when a user enters a contact. The Developer has to specify the File As field to last name,  first name to work around this issue.
7/20/03 All I can't run applications that were compiled with eMbedded Visual Basic. Windows Mobile 2003 does not include the EVB runtime in rom.  You can download it from Microsoft's site.  The file you are downloading is a .CAB file that you need to copy to your Pocket PC and use File Explorer to click on it to install it.  You do not need to open the CAB file on your desktop. This is by design.
7/17/03 Dell Axim AX5 After installing the Windows Mobile 2003, the Axim runs up to five times slower for some applications.  See AximSite Test Results Open Item - Dell is researching the problem..
7/17/03 All When using the Pictures application, if you adjust the brightness or contrast and you click Tools - Revert to Saved will not reverse the changes. Workaround - Click Cancel instead of Revert to Saved and your changes will not be saved.
6/29/03 All 3rd party applications are unable to access the internal databases (calendar, contacts, tasks, etc). Microsoft changed the database format of the internal databases. Microsoft has released the Database Conversion Wizard Power Toy to convert the databases back into the original format.  Only works with Windows XP or Windows 2000 SP3 and ActiveSync 3.7.

Submit your bugs to Chris@Pocket PC FAQ and I will add them here.  Include the device you are using and the steps that you took to confirm the issue. Please indicate whether or not I may publish your name as the submitter of the problem.
