Pocket PC 2002 Bugs - Toshiba

Introduction
Here is a list of bugs that people have reported with their Toshiba Pocket PC 2002. Whenever possible, I will list how the problem has been resolved. This page does not address hardware issues where components fail due to mishandling. Submit your bugs to Chris@Pocket PC FAQ and I will add them here.
This bug list does not represent the views of Microsoft or the hardware manufacturers to identify or resolve issues with their products. The issues listed here may or may not be addressed by Microsoft and/or the hardware manufacturers as they see fit. All items listed are based on reports from users which may or may not be accurate.

| 8/19/02 | E740 | I also find many other problems, especially with the memory cards. It's not unusual for it not to run a program when it is installed on the CF or SD card. Also noticed that it does not retain some settings. Example, while I installed Mobipocket to the CF card, it would not retain the font size and book locations. When I go back in, I would have to set them up again. This was solved by putting MB on the main memory. I also installed Calligrapher on the main memory and use it for a while. All of a sudden it popped up and asked for my serial number again. No idea why it did not record it in the first place. | Open Issue. It may be related to how the 3rd party applications store their settings. |

I spoke to Toshiba and they said it was a design fault in Windows and only happens when you have too many programs running. (Editor's Note: I have not seen this issue with other Pocket PC 2002 devices.) |
| 7/29/02 | E740 | Backlight sometimes seems to forget you are actively using the device. Screen will go dark seconds (or fractions of a second) after you have tapped the screen. | Have to tap again to get the light back on. |
| 7/29/02 | E740 | ActiveSync randomly disconnects whether using IR or USB (have seen in some forums reports of WIFI problems too). It is incredibly annoying if it happens 45 minutes into a backup! | Soft reset seems to make it work more reliably for a time. |
| 7/11/02 | E740 | Can not sync using WiFi. The WiFi connection is dropped. | Turn off the power save option for the built-in WiFi. I interferes with the ability to sync using WiFi with ActiveSync. |
