Introduction

Here is a list of bugs that people have reported with their Compaq iPAQ Pocket PC 2002.  Whenever possible, I will list how the problem has been resolved.   This page does not address hardware issues where components fail due to mishandling.  Submit your bugs to Chris@Pocket PC FAQ and I will add them here. Compaq's Drivers, Fixes and Updates.

This bug list does not represent the views of Microsoft or the hardware manufacturers to identify or resolve issues with their products. The issues listed here may or may not be addressed by Microsoft and/or the hardware manufacturers as they see fit. All items listed are based on reports from users which may or may not be accurate.

Date Added Device Problem Description Resolution

Compaq

4/17/03 iPAQ 5400 iPAQ does not power on even though the unit runs fine when plugged into the AC Adapter. Also battery shows it is charged. See this customer advisory and download this driver - SP24131
4/17/03 iPAQ 5400 Headset volume is much lower than other iPAQs. Install the Headset Volume Improvment
8/15/02 iPAQ 3900 Users have reported problems using Infrared to communicate to printers and other peripherals.  Apparently additional IR pulses are being sent that are not recognized by the other device. Install the iPAQ 3900 Infrared Fix
4/18/02 iPAQ 3870 or 3875 When using the built-in Bluetooth adapter, communications are limited to 115.2k instead of the 768k that is the true limitation of Bluetooth's data channel. This is a design limitation by Compaq.  All Bluetooth requests are routed through the serial port UART which is limited to 115.2k baud.  You may notice this limitation if you try to access Bluetooth access points for the web or have high speed data like 1xRTT or GPRS.
4/17/02 iPAQ 3800 When using the iPAQ 3800 outside users have noticed that the systems are very slow. By design, the Infrared ports in Pocket PC 2002 are enabled all the time.  The Infrared port in the iPAQ 3800 is sensitive to sunlight and causes the system to think it is beginning an Infrared connection.  Disable the Infrared port using Start - Settings - Beam.
4/17/02 iPAQ 3800 After using the iPAQ 3800 for a few hours the backlight does not stay on.  Also, this can occur when powering on the iPAQ. There is a known issue with the iPAQ 3800 series backlight which causes it to not come on,  Please contact Compaq for a repair. See Compaq Customer Advisory.
4/3/02 iPAQ 3870 or 3875 When attempting to use Bluetooth, the user is notified that the Bluetooth stack can not be loaded. Install the iPAQ Bluetooth Manager 1.1 or  soft reset your iPAQ to use Bluetooth.
11/26/01 iPAQ 3800 The Notification light that blinks when any type of alarm goes off. However no matter what the setting is in Start - settings - Sounds& Notification , it will ONLY blink for 5 minutes. Open Issue
11/26/01 iPAQ 3800 Static when docking and undocking and when Alarm 1 goes off. All sounds play fine if they are played through Start - settings -Sounds& Notificaion , so it's not a bad wave file. Open Issue to be addressed with a rom update
11/14/01 iPAQ 3800 When the user sets the brightness to the lowest setting, the backlight flickers Open Issue
10/31/01 iPAQ 3800 Go to Calculator. Click on the Currency Button at the bottom (next to the numbers 123) Click on the Currency type to calculate from at the top of the screen. A drop down box will appear with scroll bars right and left. Using the bottom scroll bar, scroll to the right all the way, then scroll back. The first letter of the Country gets chopped off and is not refreshed properly. Submitted by Greg Heidt Open Issue. This only affects the display. The calculator still works fine.
10/18/01 iPAQ 3700 User hears loud popping from the unit when they use the iPAQ after the mute option has been selected. Open Issue
iPAQ 3700, 3600 iPAQ 3600 with upgrades and 3700 owners should check the Pocket PC Bugs - Compaq for additional issues.

Submit your bugs to Chris@Pocket PC FAQ and I will add them here.  Include the device you are using and the steps that you took to confirm the issue. Please indicate whether or not I may publish your name as the submitter of the problem.
